The Hearing, Speech, and Language Sciences Department at Gallaudet University provides graduate training in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology, undergraduate courses relating to speech and hearing, graduate courses in audiology and amplification adn supports research aimed at a broad range of areas affecting deaf and hard of hearing individuals. The department offers the following degrees: Au.D. in Audiology, Ph.D. in Audiology, M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology.

The audiology degree program (Au.D.) is designed to produce audiologists fully trained to work with hard of hearing and deaf individuals, offering a broad and intense academic curriculum and an integrated sequential clinical experience. The program is unique in that it trains audiologists to be proficient in American Sign Language with an understanding of the deaf community. The Hearing, Speech, and Language Sciences Department at Gallaudet University also offers a Ph.D. program in audiology that prepares post-Au.D. students for faculty and research positions in universities and other research facilities. The M.S. program in speech-language pathology provides a broad background in speech and language disorders with an emphasis on the communication needs of deaf and hard of hearing individuals.

The Department of Speech and Hearing Sciences offers a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Speech and Hearing Science. The focus of the undergraduate program in speech language pathology is in providing students with an in-depth knowledge of the normal aspects of communication. Undergraduate students can act as aides in our Speech and Hearing Clinic and are encouraged to participate in the research projects of the faculty and staff. The department also offers a minor in Speech and Hearing Science. The Department of Speech and Hearing Science at The George Washington University is one of the departments of the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences (CCAS) and their graduate program in Speech-Language Pathology has maintained accreditation by the Council on Academic Accreditation (CAA) of the ASHA since 1970.

The department of Speech and Hearing Scienceoffers two graduate programs; one for those who have an undergraduate degree in speech language pathology and one for those who have an undergraduate degree from another field. Upon completion of the Master of Arts degree in Speech-Language Pathology, students will have met the academic course work and supervised clinical practicum requirements for the ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC). Students are also required to take and pass The National Examination in Speech-Language Pathology (PRAXIS) during the last semester of graduate study as a component of the Master's degree comprehensive examination. In addition, ASHA requires a Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY), which may not begin until after completion of all Masters Degree requirements.

The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders offers the Bachelor of Science in Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology and graduate programs leading to the master’s and doctoral degrees in speech-language pathology and audiology. These programs are fully accredited by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association. Howard University offers degree programs leading to the Master of Science and Doctor of Philosophy in Communication Sciences. The master’s programs are accredited by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech Pathology. The M.S. program has specializations in speech-language pathology, and audiology. The Ph.D. program in speech-language pathology has two specializations in child language disorders and adult neurological disorders.
